Sharks Hotties

Early this morning while talking to my friend Stephen about trading players and renewing contracts, somehow we got on the subject about some Sharks players being hot.  He said that we should trade Dan Boyle for Callahan, and that I should get on Twitter asking for the trade.  Of course, I told him I could not give Boyler up (I am a fan), and he jokingly told me that we could not keep players around because of their “hot” factor and that there are no female GMs because of that reason (“Keep a player because he has a cute butt.”).  I just had to carry it as far as possible.

He then sends a picture of Callahan and I told him I may be getting persuaded.  I told him that maybe we could have a team full of hotties with talent.  He joked with me about liking pretty boys, and I told him I wanted hot-looking players to look at, and that we could be known for having the hottest looking team in the league.  We would need a big rink to hold all of the female fans, and that after the games (win or lose) we could have them skating around showing their assets.  Then our conversation moved to other things, Sharks related of course, like Tomas Hertl skating today for the first time after his knee injury in December 2013.

This afternoon while watching the game, he talked about trading Scott Hannan.  I told him we could trade him and keep Boyler.  Then I added that we could keep Cooch (Logan Couture) if he got a haircut.  He then said he was going to start sending me photos of cheerleaders (to annoy me) and I told him it would not bother me.  I sent him a photo of Boyler.  While looking for more photos, I noticed that someone else had posted on her blog  about sexy hockey players.  The portion of the blog was titled “Sexy Saturday” and this one featured Dan Boyle (Vicky and Nikki’s 5 Hole Sexy Saturday: Dan Boyle).  GMTA (Great Minds Think Alike)!!!  That post gave me an idea.

I am listing my “San Jose Sharks Hotties,” and I think this is something I will do every season.  I am starting with the 2013-2014 season since I did not discover hockey until the playoffs in the 2012-2013 season.  It would just not be fair to backtrack.  Right?

Sharks vs Kings

This was my tenth game I have attended and my streak came to an end.  Yes, I did not make it to the 10th game winning game.  It was sad to see.  The Sharks did not play as well as they should have and it seems as if they gave up to the Kings.  Rae and I went to the game.  She was rooting for the Kings (BAD RAE!  BAD!!!).  I guess I will have to start my streak all over again.  Now I am 9 wins – 1 loss.

Sharks vs Ducks

This is my last game of the year.  I have been following hockey since May and I am a big, big fan.  This was my ninth game and I was hoping for my streak to remain alive.  I went with my bestest pal Stephen.  He has been having a rough time these last few months, so he was looking forward to the game.  All he could afford was about $120 for the ticket, which meant lower bowl and one of the last rows back (21-24).  Once we got there, I broke the news to him, we had Section 120, Row 23.  He started going to his seat, and I told him I would see him later as I was going to my seat on row 13.  He was surprised.  So, once he starts sitting down in row 13, I told him to have fun because I am going to my seat.  He was shocked!  He thought I was crazy because I got us row 3.  That’s right!  ROW 3!  The best seats I had so far, and the best seats he has ever had.

This was a great game.  It was completely awesome seeing the players so close.  They are big!  When they would get to the corners (where we were) they would bang each other hard, and would hit the puck really hard.  A few times, it seemed like the puck was going to break through.  But, it was really cool seeing a puck going into the goal.  See:

And here is the celebration afterwards of Bracken Kearns first NHL goal (we were pretty close, huh?):

Well, my streak lives!  That is 9 wins – 0 losses whenever I go to the home games.

Sharks vs Avalanche

Tonight, the kids and I went to see the Sharks play against the Colorado Avalanche.  First of all, I had to have my picture with SJ Sharkie.  I just love that Shark.  As I was getting my picture, he bit my head and he made this squeaky noise with his mouth.  It was funny.

Now, back to the game.  It was quite an intense game.  The Avalanche (“Avs”) scored first in the first period and we tied it only for the Avs to pull ahead within seconds from the period ending.  Burnzie tied it in the second period and Irwin pulled us ahead.  The Avs tied in the third period then pulled ahead with 1:39 remaining in the game, and the Sharks were now losing.  I was very sure that I was going to end my winning streak.  With 19.6 seconds remaining of the game, my wonderful Pavelski scored so we managed to tie the game and we went into overtime.  As you may know, the first team to score during overtime wins the game, so I spend a full five minutes of intense stress.  Overtime is over and now it is the Shootout phase.  Three players for each team has the chance to score up to three goals.  If no one scores, then a player for each team will go until the winning goal is score.  Cooch (Couture) and Marleau did it!  Phew!

The only two pictures of the game are here:

Sharks vs Blues

Oh, My God!  Today’s game was amazing.  I decided to get tickets to this game because it would be the game after the one where St. Louis Blues player Maxim Lapierre knocked San Jose Sharks player Dan Boyle unconscious for several minutes back in October while playing in St. Louis.  I figured that the Sharks needed all the support possible from its fans.  Lea, the kids, and I were there to show our support the day after Thanksgiving.

I will say that the Sharks behaved well.  There were no retributions for what Lapierre did.  The game moved rather quickly with Brent Burns scoring two goals within the first period.  I honestly thought that I would be lucky to see a live hat trick happen today, and… I was right.  Burnzie scored his third goal, a hat trick, his FIRST NHL hat trick, during the third period.  It was AWESOME seeing all those hats being thrown to the ice.  The crowd went completely wild, and yes, Lea and I were part of those going wild.  We went to beat the Blues 6 to 3, and my streak is still going strong.  Wooo!!!

I definitely will not forget today’s game.

Sharks vs Lightning

Tonight, I took my brother Nick to his first hockey game.  Because he lives in Peru, he does not have the opportunity to watch this game and they do not have it accessible online like they do with Baseball and Football.  I got the best seats that I could afford… Section 115, Row 10, Seats 5-6.  That is the closest I have ever sat to the ice.  He was excited and very happy to be there.  I also ran into a couple of Ohlone people… Jason Jones, who used to work there, and now works for University of Phoenix and he handed me my Bachelor’s diploma; and Elaine Henderson, who currently teaches at Ohlone.

I believe, unless he fooled me, that Nick really liked the game.  The Sharks beat the Lightning 5 to 1.  This makes the sixth game in a row that I go to where the Sharks win.  Hmmmm, I see a streak going strong.

Here are a few photos of the game:

Family Reunion: 24 Years in the Making

Nick and I's reunion

Nick and I’s reunion

A few months ago, my brother Nick (he is the son of my dad and my stepmom Miryam) asked me where I lived, so I told him in the San Francisco area.  He asked me how close that was to Santa Clara and I told him it is about 50 minutes away, so he said he was going to be here in November and he wanted to spend some time with us.  I was so excited because the last time I saw my brother Nick was in 1989-1990 when he was about 2.5 years old, and back then it was the first time I met him since he was not born when my brother Netzher and I left Peru to come to the United States in 1986.

I finally saw my brother Nick after almost 24 years.  When my brother Netzher and I left Peru in 1986, the only other sibling he and I had was my sister Ursula.  She was my dad’s and stepmom Miryam’s child and she was born in 1982.  Obviously, we all spent some time together and had that siblings thing going, but Nick was not in the picture.  When we returned to Peru in 1989-1990, we met my brother Nick, who was born in 1987.  He was still little when we left and we had lost touch with my dad’s side of the family for many years.  Thanks to the Internet (Facebook in particular), I reestablished contact with my dad and that side of the family.

A few months ago, my brother Nick told me he was going to be in the San Francisco bay area to visit his cousin Adriana.  I was excited because I had not seen him since, well, 1987.  He and I got to spend about three days together before he had to go back to Peru.  We went to see the Winchester Mystery House, spend some time with the kids (he met his niece and nephew for the first time) at my house, took him shooting at an indoor range, visited Alcatraz in San Francisco, and took him to see his first National Hockey League (NHL) game where we saw the San Jose Sharks beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 5 to 1.

I hope that next time, he can visit a little longer so we can travel to see my brother and Tyler.

Here is a video showing some photos of our short visit:

Sharks vs Flames

Woooo!  I won tickets to the San Jose Sharks versus the Calgary Flames game.  Since I took Alexis the last time, tonight I got to take Michael.  The seats were on the upper level, which was not great, but cannot complain about free tickets, right?  Fun nonetheless because the Sharks won!  That makes my record 5-0, meaning that every time I go to a game the Sharks win.

Sharks Home Opener 2013-2014

Tonight, I took my children to their first official hockey game.  It was the home opener for the San Jose Sharks.  Lea, Julie, and Peter also came along.  It was a fun night, especially for me because it is a new sport that I am really getting into and because I finally got my picture with SJ Sharkie.  I also made Alexis take her picture with him.  My kids and I represented properly because we all wore Sharks jerseys.  The Sharks beat the Canucks, again.  It was beautiful.
